Russian divers refused to receive neutral status

Druzhinin said that divers will not receive neutral status

The President of the Russian Diving Federation (RFD) Stanislav Druzhinin spoke about the refusal to apply for neutral status. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Druzhinin said that the leaders of the Russian championship do not meet the criteria for admission to international tournaments, as they are members of Dynamo or CSKA. “And to send someone who took seventh, eighth, ninth place – these are not the best athletes. The whole meaning of selection disappears and the sports principle too,” he concluded.

On September 4, it became known that the World Aquatics bureau allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. Athletes will only be able to take part in events where the time or result is determined by the performance of one person. It is noted that a maximum of one athlete from Russia per discipline will be allowed to compete.

In April 2022, World Aquatics banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices.
