On Monday noon pairs of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League were drawn. In the most interesting matches, Atletico Madrid will play against Bayern Munich, and PSG against Manchester United. However, these hit matches will not take place due to a bizarre UEFA mishap.
A fatal mistake when drawing pairs of the 1/8 final of the Champions League
During the draw, however, there was a very serious mistake, which influenced the entire process of selecting rivals. First, it was drawn that the rival of Villarreal would be Manchester United. However, such a rivalry could not take place, because both teams played with each other in a group. So they were drawn again. This time Manchester City was pulled out. Then, during the draw of the rival for Atletico, the ball was not added to Manchester United, because it was considered that it had been drawn a moment earlier. According to many people, the draw was distorted in this way, because Atletico was deprived of the possibility of playing with one of the rivals with whom, according to the rules of promotion, it could compete. Ultimately, the Spanish champions went to Bayern, and Manchester United went to PSG.
The whole thing was caught by the Atletico authorities, which are demanding explanations from UEFA. “Atletico Madrid are talking to UEFA about the LM draw. UEFA is currently discussing whether the draw will be repeated. Final decision within an hour,” wrote ESPN journalist Alex Shawn
According to UEFA’s information, the draw will be repeated at 15:00!
