The Gymnastics Ethics Foundation upheld Irina Viner’s two-year suspension
The Appeal Tribunal of the Gymnastics Ethics Foundation upheld the removal of the President of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation and the head coach of the Russian national team, Irina Viner. This is reported on the organization’s website.
Wiener will not be able to work at international tournaments for two years – from March 6, 2023 to March 5, 2025. The coach has the right to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport within 21 days of receiving notification of the decision.
Wiener was also ordered to pay five thousand Swiss francs for the costs of the appeal, which the specialist filed on March 27.
On March 6, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) suspended Wiener for two years due to a scandal at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where the coach spoke critically about the judging of the competition. In addition, Wiener was suspended as she withdrew the candidacy of Russian Natalia Kuzmina from the FIG technical committee elections in 2021.
In September 2021, Wiener withdrew Kuzmina’s candidacy from the elections, emphasizing that “she did something nasty at the Olympic Games.” The reason was the judging of the Russian woman at the Games in Tokyo, where the Israeli Lina Ashram became the winner in the individual all-around, beating the Russian Dina Averina. At the same time, the representative of Israel dropped an object during her last speech.
