Brazilian Alex Pereira knocked out Czech Jiri Prochazka and became UFC champion
Brazilian mixed-style fighter (MMA) Alex Pereira defeated Czech Jiri Prochazka in the main fight of the UFC 295 tournament, held in New York (USA). This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.
The fight for the UFC light heavyweight title ended in the second round. First, Pereira knocked Prochazka down and then finished him off with punches and elbows. Thus, the Brazilian became the title holder.
The victory was 36-year-old Pereira’s ninth in MMA with two defeats. Previously, the Brazilian athlete won the UFC middleweight championship belt by defeating Israel Adesanya. In the rematch, Adesanya knocked out Pereira and he decided to move up to light heavyweight.
Prochazka was already the UFC light heavyweight champion. The defeat from Pereira was the fourth in his career; the 31-year-old athlete has 29 wins and one draw.
Earlier at UFC 295, Russian heavyweight Sergei Pavlovich lost to Briton Tom Aspinall. The fight for the UFC interim champion title ended with Aspinall winning by knockout in the first round.
