Russian figure skater Alexander Gallyamov refused to change his sports citizenship

Olympic champion in figure skating, Russian Alexander Gallyamov spoke about changing his sports citizenship. His words are quoted by Fontanka.

The athlete emphasized that he was brought up by Russian school coaches, so he is comfortable practicing in the created conditions. “We have the best skating rinks where great events are held. Preparations are underway for all planned tournaments,” Gallyamov added, refusing to compete for another country.

Mishina and Gallyamov train in Tamara Moskvina’s group. They are champions of the Olympic Games in Beijing in the team event and winners of bronze medals in the individual event. The couple also has gold at the World Championship and European Championship.

On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Due to sanctions, skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships, as well as other international tournaments.
