Wiener wishes victory to the Chinese gymnastics team at the 2024 Olympic Games
President of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics (VFHG) Irina Viner shared her expectations from the 2024 Olympic Games. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
Wiener wished the Chinese gymnastics team victory at the Games in Paris. “Two-time Olympic champion Anastasia Bliznyuk works there now and is doing it successfully. The style and meticulous work of our gymnast, who worked with me in the Russian national team for 12 years, at three Olympics, is evident,” she explained.
Previously, Wiener spoke out against the participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympics under a neutral flag. The specialist noted that at the Games in Tokyo in 2021 and Beijing in 2022, athletes were at least allowed to use Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Concerto No. 1 instead of the anthem.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
On March 4, 2022, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) suspended Russian athletes from international tournaments. Gymnasts were prohibited from taking part in competitions held under the auspices of the federation.
