Apple has gone crazy again. Here’s the latest MacBook Pro. It is powered by the extremely fast M3 system

At the last hardware conference this year, Apple presented the latest models of MacBook Pro laptops, powered by the powerful M3 system, offering support for ray-tracing technology. We also saw refreshed iMacs, which also have new processors.

The highlight of the program during the Apple presentation was the new generation of processors, which includes the M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max systems. All of them were made in a 3-nanometer technological process and offer support for ray-tracing (reverse ray tracing), mesh shading and dynamic caching (the system uses exactly as much memory as is necessary to perform a specific task).

The base M3 chip, which is made of 25 billion transistors, offers 8 CPU cores (4 performance and 4 energy-saving ones). Apple emphasizes that it is 35 percent more efficient than the M1 processor. However, there was no comparison with the M2 system.

However, the real strength of the M3 systems is the increase in GPU performance. The new system in the basic version has 10 GPU cores, which are to be 65 percent faster. faster than the GPU in the M1 model. The M3 offers support for 24 GB of unified RAM.

The more powerful M3 Pro already has 12 CPUs (6 + 6) and an 18-core GPU, which gives a 40% increase in performance compared to the M1 Pro. Apple claims that the M3 Pro is 30 percent faster than the M1 Pro for single-threaded tasks. This system supports up to 36 GB of RAM.

The most powerful processor presented, M3 Max, has a 16-core CPU (12 + 12), which provides a 50% increase in performance compared to M1 Max and a 40-core GPU. In the case of the graphics system, the performance increase is as much as 80 percent. This system offers support for 128 GB of unified memory.

During the presentation, Apple focused primarily on GPU capabilities and the performance of new systems in video games and tools for game developers. It is clearly visible that the Cupertino company is becoming more and more interested in gaming,

Thanks to the new 3-nanometer technological process, M3 systems are to be less “hungry” for electricity compared to their predecessors. Apple assures that these processors are able to provide identical performance to M1 systems, but using half their power.

The M3 systems also received an improved neural enging engine, which is supposed to cope even better with machine learning models (performance increase by 60 percent compared to M1). The new media engine offers support for popular video codecs, including H.265, HEGC, ProRes, ProRes RAW and AV1.

MacBook Pro with M3 chip. Up to 22 hours of battery life

The first devices to receive M3 chips are the new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models. In terms of design, the laptops are practically no different from their predecessors, although they are available in a new color variant – gray.

The heart of the new laptops are, of course, the above-mentioned M3 systems. Apple boasts that the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M3 is up to 60 percent more efficient than the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 chip.

The new MacBook Pros have Liquid Retina XDR (Mini LED) screens. The brightness in SDR mode is 600 nits and is 20 percent higher. higher compared to the previous generation of the device. In HDR mode, the brightness can reach up to 1,600 nits.

The computers also have a built-in 1080p camera, a set of 6 speakers and offer support for up to 128 GB of unified RAM. Apple also boasts that the latest MacBooks with M3 chips can work for up to 22 hours on a single battery charge.

The smallest iMac also received M3!

Apple also decided to refresh the smallest variant of its all-in-one computer. The 24.5-inch iMac, which was missed at the launch of the M2 chip, also received the latest M3 processor. The company boasts that this makes the device 2 times faster than iMacs with M1 chips and 4 times faster than 21.5-inch variants with Intel processors.

In terms of performance, the new iMac is definitely in line with its predecessors, although it is now slightly slimmer (11.5 mm thick). As for the screen diagonal, it is 24.5 inches. We are dealing here with a Liquid Retina display that works in 4.5K resolution.

The new iMac has a 1080p camera, a set of 6 speakers and 4 built-in USB-C ports (two of them work in the Thunderbolt standard). There is also support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
