The Makhachkala authorities called on Dagestanis to get involved in working with the younger generation after the riots at the airport.

As the mayor of the city, Yusup Umavov, said following a meeting on this issue, the riots involved mainly people 20–25 years old. “This is our youth, our children, our future, it is our responsibility to educate and care for them!” Umavov wrote in Telegram.

In this regard, the official asked Dagestanis to explain to the younger generation that there are those who “do not sympathize with the grief of the Palestinian people,” but sympathy should not become a reason for persecuting people on religious and national grounds.

Umavov also said that the authorities have prepared recommendations for the department of sports, tourism and youth work, the education department and the city’s culture department.

Mass riots occurred on the evening of Sunday, October 29, at Makhachkala airport. Hundreds of protesters against the arrival of a flight from Tel Aviv stormed Uytash Airport. They were forced out by police officers. As a result of the incident, more than 20 people were injured, including law enforcement officers, and more than 80 people were detained. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the unrest in Makhachkala was organized by Western intelligence services through social networks from the territory of Ukraine. In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry called the unrest in Dagestan “a provocation organized from outside.”
