Table tennis player Filatov, who mixed lemonade with alcohol, was suspended
The Russian Table Tennis Federation (FNTR) disqualified Vasily Filatov for drinking alcohol during a Russian Cup match. This is reported on the organization’s website.
The athlete told RIA Novosti that before the tournament, in which he did not take part due to injury, he bought a can of carbonated drink in a store, thinking it was lemonade. During the match, he took a few sips while on the bench.
After that, the organizers took the can from him and found out that it contained alcohol. The tennis player apologized, poured out the contents, and also explained that he accidentally mixed up the drinks and asked not to seriously punish him.
For violating the Player Code of Conduct, Filatov was suspended from all tournaments until April 2, 2024. He also received a conditional disqualification from April 3 to October 2, 2024.
