Gulyaev said that the ISU refused to discuss the issue of admitting Russians to tournaments
The International Skating Union (ISU) refused to discuss the issue of admitting Russian athletes to tournaments. Match TV reports this.
On October 7 and 8, the ISU Council was held, one of the topics of which was to discuss the return of the Russian and Belarus national teams to international competitions. “Unfortunately, this issue was not even discussed, although it was on the agenda,” said Nikolai Gulyaev, president of the Russian Skating Union.
On October 6, RIA Novosti, citing a source familiar with the situation, reported that several ISU members at the organization’s Council would propose again allowing athletes from Belarus to participate in tournaments. It is noted that there are reasons for this, including the absence of the Belarusian military in Ukraine. At the same time, we are not talking about supporting the return of Russians to competitions.
On March 1, 2022, the ISU banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Because of the sanctions, figure skaters, speed skaters and short track speed skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships and other international tournaments.
