Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has ordered a “complete siege” to be imposedover the Gaz Stripa, in such a way that the coastal territory controlled by Hamas does not receive “neither electricity, fuel nor food supplies.”
“We are fighting with animals humans and we will act in the same way,” Gallant said this Monday, in a forceful message from the Southern Command base in Beersheba with which he made it clear that “everything will be closed“from now on, according to ‘The Times of Israel’.
The head of the Ministry of Energy, Israel Katz, has confirmed that this blockade will also affect the water supply, interrupted “immediately”. The Israeli authorities have already maintained a tight blockade on the Strip since 2007, the year in which Hamas took control of the Strip after an internal struggle with Al Fatah, the Palestinian faction that governs the West Bank.
Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces announced the launch of a “large-scale attack” against multiple Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip, in full escalation of clashes following the large-scale assault launched early Saturday by militants of the Palestinian group.
The Israeli Army has carried out numerous bombings since then on the coastal territory, although for now it has not initiated a land offensive. Hamas claims that it has taken dozens of hostages in its incursion into Israeli territory, although the data remains confusing.
