ROC will pay compensation to Olympians suspended from international competitions
The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) will pay compensation to Russian Olympians suspended from international tournaments. This was stated by the head of the organization Stanislav Pozdnyakov, whose words are reported by TASS.
“500 thousand rubles will be paid for gold medalists, 350 thousand rubles for silver medalists and 250 thousand rubles for bronze medalists. 150 thousand rubles will be paid to the participants of the Olympic Games,” Pozdnyakov said. He noted that the funds will be received by athletes of summer sports who continue their careers despite being suspended from competition.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended not to be allowed to participate in tournaments.
At the end of February 2022, many sports organizations banned Russians from participating in tournaments on the recommendation of the IOC. At the same time, in some disciplines, such as tennis, MMA and chess, Russian athletes were not excluded and continued to perform in a neutral status.
