Bohdan Gadomski was a journalist and publicist who gained the greatest recognition thanks to his publications about Violetta Villas, Michael Ball and Shirley Bassey. In addition, he also taught singing, which gave him professional knowledge in this field. He was the winner of many awards, including: Golden Pen for the best reviewer, and also cooperated with many editorial offices.
The man died on March 24, 2020 after a long-term illness. However, it turns out that his death was accelerated by improper care. Gadomski was a diabetic, and his couple of caregivers administered this drug to him incorrectly, without using a special applicator, the so-called pena, which probably led to significantly exceeding the recommended doses.
Bohdan Gadomski’s death was initially shrouded in mystery
The notification of suspicion of a crime in this case appeared after the autopsy. They were submitted by the hospital where a famous journalist from Łódź died. An autopsy revealed that death was the result of extreme hypoglycemia, probably caused by an overdose of insulin.
Investigators found that in 2020, Gadomski stayed in one of the hospitals in Łódź several times. After his discharge on March 6, he was taken into the care of Borys Ł. and his wife, Halina K-Ł. The journalist was ill, among others. he had diabetes and it was necessary to administer insulin, which, according to the evidence collected by the prosecutor’s office, was administered to Gadomski incorrectly. According to an expert diabetologist, the concentration of insulin in the man’s body was even ten times higher.
Borys Ł. tried to defend himself in court, explaining that the hospital staff did not instruct him how to use the syringe to administer insulin. The judge even allowed the defendant to present his own method of “measuring” the drug – without using a pen. However, the prosecutor remained adamant and pointed out that all the evidence, taken as a whole, indicated the defendants’ intentions, motive and method of action.
Moreover, the couple allegedly concealed the fact of his death from Gadomski’s friends and began to manage his estate before the inheritance was established. According to the provisions of the will, the Ł. couple were to inherit the journalist’s entire estate. There is also an ongoing trial in this case, but it has been suspended pending the verdict in the criminal case.
The verdict in the case was passed. The defense and prosecutor’s office announce an appeal
This was passed on October 4, 2023. According to the portal’s reports, Judge Tomasz Krawczyk decided that both defendants were guilty of unintentionally causing Gadomski’s death. Borys Ł. was sentenced to one year and 5 months in prison, and Halina K.-Ł. 3 months in prison and 9 months of community service
The proceedings did not prove that the defendants acted intentionally and in concert. “The way the accused behaved when the ambulance was called the next day shows that he did it unconsciously. He showed the rescuers how it happened, thus incriminating himself. If he had administered too large a dose on purpose, he would not have behaved like that,” the judge argued.
The judgment is not final. Both the defense and the prosecutor’s office announced they would appeal. The latter requested a ten-year prison sentence for Borys Ł., and a five-year prison sentence for his wife.
