Biathlete Daria Virolainen named the reasons for joining the Finnish national team. Her words are quoted by YLE.
The athlete stated that she changed her citizenship due to unfulfilled goals. “I feel that I can still progress,” she noted and added that she was well received by the team.
Virolainen, the daughter of three-time Olympic champion Anfisa Reztsova, became eligible to compete for Finland at international tournaments on August 18. The 34-year-old biathlete was selected for the national team based on the results of qualifying competitions. The athlete received Finnish citizenship in 2021.
Virolainen is a former member of the Russian women’s biathlon team. She has two silver medals at the World Cup and a bronze medal at the 2014 European Biathlon Championship.
