World Aquatics threatens to suspend Russian swimmers for talking to the media at the starts
The International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics) has threatened to suspend Russian swimmers for communicating with the media at competitions. TASS reports this.
The organization noted that such violations will be assessed by an independent unit for compliance with ethics in aquatic sports. “Sanctions may go beyond a fine and include disqualification if the circumstances so warrant,” they explained.
On September 4, it became known that the World Aquatics bureau allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. Athletes will only be allowed to participate in events where the time or result is determined by the performance of one athlete. It is noted that a maximum of one athlete from Russia per discipline will be allowed to compete.
In April 2022, World Aquatics banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices in 2022. Domestic athletes missed the World Aquatics Championships, which took place in Hungary from June 18 to July 3.
