McKinnon said that Colorado welcomed Nichushkin with open arms

Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon spoke about the return of Russian striker Valery Nichushkin to the team after an incident with alcohol. The athlete’s words are quoted by The Denver Post.

“We welcomed him with open arms. We love Val. We just know that he will try for us. He’s a tremendous player,” MacKinnon said.

On April 28, The Denver Post reported that a girl was found in a heavily intoxicated state in the hockey player’s hotel room. She called herself a Russian, born in Ukraine. It was noted that there is no criminal investigation underway.

On April 25, Nichushkin left the Colorado team because of what happened. Later the team denied this information.

Nichushkin is a graduate of Chelyabinsk Traktor. For two seasons he played in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for CSKA. The forward has been playing in the NHL since 2018; in 2019, he joined the Colorado roster. In the 2022/2023 season, the Russian won the Stanley Cup with the team.
