The festival, however, will inevitably be marked by absences. In that sense, the strike of Hollywood actors and actresses will prevent Javier Bardem from collecting the Donostia Award this year (he will do so in 2024), and Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki will also receive the award virtually from Tokyo.
The director of Zinemaldia, José Luis Rebordinos, had already warned in recent weeks that this edition could be “a little less brilliant” due to the absence of big Hollywood stars (with the exception of Jessica Chastain, of course). In any case, his place will be filled by other figures of European cinema.
