Russian speed skating champion Semirunniy will compete for Poland

Russian speed skating champion, bronze medalist of the junior world championship Vladimir Semirunniy decided to compete for the Polish national team. His words are quoted by Match TV.

The athlete said that he notified the Russian Skating Union of his desire to change his sports citizenship and represent another country. He thanked the Russian coaches for the years of preparation. “Now is the time to take the most important step in your development as an athlete, and international practice is necessary,” he explained.

Semirunniy is the 2022 Russian champion at a distance of 10,000 meters. He also holds the national junior record in the 3000 meters.

On March 1, 2022, the International Skating Union (ISU) banned Russians from participating in competitions under its auspices. The sanctions will remain in effect until further notice.
