The ROC commented on the possibility of a boycott of the Olympic Games

The head of the ROC Stanislav Pozdnyakov called the boycott of the Olympic Games a path to nowhere

The head of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov spoke about the possibility of a boycott of the Olympic Games. His comment is quoted by RIA Novosti.

Pozdnyakov called the boycott of the Olympics a road to nowhere. “We live in a civilized democratic state. Therefore, a boycott by the ROC is impossible. We are not invited – there is nothing to boycott,” he said, adding that the decision to participate in the tournament should remain with the athletes.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russian athletes must independently decide to participate in the Olympics in 2024. “Of course, we must first of all be guided by the interests of athletes in this situation,” said the head of state.

On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions. However, the final decision on the participation of Russians in the Games in Paris has not been made.
