Vasiliev called on Isinbayeva to voice the position of the Russians in the commission of athletes of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). “Today, everything that concerns Russia is perceived with hostility and with great aggression. Those who do not support this point of view find themselves in the camp of enemies, so Isinbayeva has every chance to be like that. Of course, Elena will not be able to help Russia in any way in the current situation, but she will be able to state the position of the athletes, which no one hears, ”he explained.
On September 5, it became known that Isinbayeva retained her place in the IOC Athletes’ Commission, which she has been a member of since 2016. Before that, a check was carried out against her: the organization came to the conclusion that the former athlete could continue to work in the organization, since she did not support the SVO in Ukraine and did not have a contract with the Russian army or law enforcement agencies.
In March, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the SVO be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in tournaments.
