AFP: WADA threatens France with ban on 2024 Olympics
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has criticized the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD). It is reported by TASS with reference to AFP.
“If the trend to make decisions that are manifestly inconsistent with the Code and jurisprudence of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) continues, WADA’s legal department will have no choice but to refer this matter to its internal compliance working group for review and, after review, accept appropriate measures,” the statement said.
It is noted that the French side is condemned for lack of rigidity in three recent doping cases. The AFLD said that WADA has threatened to initiate proceedings that could result in French athletes being banned from certain international competitions and hosting events, including the 2024 Olympics.
The Olympic Games are to be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The question of the participation of Russian athletes in competitions has not yet been resolved.
