Denmark refused to allow Russian rowers to the World Cup for security reasons
Denmark refused to allow Russian rowers to compete in the 2023 Canoeing World Championships. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“We did not have the opportunity to accept them due to concerns about their safety. The same reason was at the World Championships in sprint canoeing,” said the President of the Danish Canoeing Federation, Tom Faurshaw. He added that the Danish side initially opposed the participation of Russians and Belarusians in the tournament, but was forced to submit to the International Canoe Federation (ICF).
On August 15, the Russian rowing team was allowed to participate in the 2023 World Championships in Belgrade. At the tournament, athletes will compete in neutral status in singles and compete for tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.
