The inflation annualized increased 5.58% in August in Metropolitan Lima, the lowest in 16 months. In the eighth month of the year it rose 0.38% and achieved an accumulated variation of 3.30% so far in 2023, according to Resolution No. 230-2023 of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).

It should be noted that this value, measured by the variation of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), It is the lowest since October 2021, when it stood at 5.83%.
Although these results reflect a downward trend, since for July —after 12 months of progress— it reached 5.88%, it continues to remain high at the expected levels. According to economist Juan Carlos Odar, the rate for this eighth month is usually lower, 0.23%. “Increase in gasoline and some foods seem to have had an impact on the rise,” he stressed.
