The Colombian Juan Sebastian Molano (UAE Team Emirates) is the first leader of the Vuelta a Burgos after winning this Tuesday in the sprint of the first stage the Spanish Iván García Cortina (Movistar) and the Italian Edoardo Affini (Jumbo Visma), second and third, respectively.
soon formed a 5 runner breakaway: Ángel Fuentes (Burgos BH), Mattia Bais (Eolo Kometa), Josu Etxebarria (Caja Rural), Xabier Berasategi (Euskaltel), José María García (Electro Hiper Europa) reached an advantage of almost 3 minutes and endured the arreones behind a squad that the UAE was pulling.
Fuentes, Berasategi and Bais went through Villanueva de Argaño in that order, where the intermediate sprint was held, but their difference went down to the mountain pass, where the riders fought to put on the mountain jersey.
Berasategi, Bais, Etxeberria and Fuentes took points and the peloton rolled at 1:10 but with a very strong pace, so much so that only Bais was able to ride alone for 12 more kilometers until the platoon entered Burgos in a group.
The urban circuit was the scene of the struggle for position in the sprint, in a fight in which the UAE placed its runners better and in which Juan Sebastián Molano took the stage victory. The Gipuzkoan Berasategifor his part, leads the mountain classification.
