Up to a third of labor migrants may leave Russia due to the weakening of the ruble against major foreign currencies, which will cause their incomes to drop significantly. This is reported by Vedomosti with reference to the forecast of the head of the Uzbek diaspora in Moscow Bahrom Ismailov.
The survey, conducted with the participation of almost 23 thousand representatives of the Uzbek diaspora, revealed that 50% of respondents are considering the possibility of leaving the Russian Federation, 25% are not going to leave Russia, and another 25% could not decide on an answer.
Ismailov explained that due to the growth of the dollar, the earnings of migrants in the Russian Federation are becoming more and more comparable to their incomes at home. He predicted the largest outflow of migrant workers in areas such as retail, catering, cleaning, courier delivery and agriculture.
Recall that the dollar exchange rate on the Moscow Exchange on August 14 for the first time since March 2022 exceeded 101 rubles, and the euro reached 110 rubles. On August 15, the Central Bank raised the key rate to 12% to support the ruble.
