The UN General Assembly has approved the dates of the Olympic Truce for the Winter Olympics in Beijing. This is stated on the website of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“The IOC welcomes the tremendous support for the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing by all UN member states through the adoption of the Armistice Resolution. The mission of the Olympic and Paralympic Games is to unite the best athletes in the world in peaceful competitions and stand above any political disputes, ”the authors of the document explained.
The resolution entitled “Building a peaceful and better world through sport and Olympic ideals” was adopted on Thursday, December 2, by 173 UN member states at the 76th session of the General Assembly. She calls for the observance of the Olympic truce from January 28 (seven days before the opening of the Olympic Games) to March 20 (seven days after the close of the Paralympics)
The Winter Olympics in Beijing will be held from 4 to 20 February 2022. The Paralympics are scheduled for March 4-13.
Earlier it was reported that a number of countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, are considering the possibility of a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics, which will be held in Beijing, China.
