Australia’s 1-0 win over Ireland in the world Cup it was historic for the home team. Thursday’s match recorded the largest attendance for a women’s soccer match in the country’s history.
In all, 75,784 fans were present to watch the selection’s debut at the World Cup. The match was held in the city of Sydney, at the Accor Stadium. The venue for the match has capacity for around 80,000 spectators and will also host the final of the tournament.

During the confrontation, the Australians could not count on striker Sam Kerr, who felt a calf injury and was cut from the match. Even so, the hosts managed to win thanks to Stephanie Catley’s penalty goal.
The result left Australia temporarily in the lead of Group B. The Brazilian team will make its debut in the World Cup next Monday, in a duel against Panama.
