Borussia Dortmund announced, through an official statement this Thursday, that it has reached an agreement to terminate the contract of left-back Nico Schulz, with immediate effect. The German stayed with the team for three seasons and is now free on the market to sign for another club.
Sebastian Kehl, sporting director of Borussia Dortmund, said the player did not live up to the team’s expectations. “We all know that things have not developed as expected for Borussia Dortmund and Nico Schulz in recent years. However, we wish Nico all the best for his sporting and personal future.”

For Dortmund, Schulz made 61 appearances, scored one goal and distributed three assists. He was in the group that was vice-champion of the German Championship in the 2022/23 season, when the team lost the title to Bayern Munchen in the last round.
Nico Schulz joined Borussia in 2019 from Hoffenheim. The left-back had a contract with Dortmund until June 2024, but did not perform as expected and leaves the club after the contractual termination. In his career, he has also played for Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha Berlin, both from Germany.
