Women’s World Cup absentee team, a ‘dream team’

Injured, not called up or teams that didn’t qualify. Several stars of women’s soccer will not be in world Cup Australia and New Zealand, which will run from July 20th to August 20th.

This is the “dream team” that could be formed with players absent from the World Cup in the category.

Goalkeeper

  • Christiane Endler (Chile)

Considered the best goalkeeper in the world, the Lyon player failed to qualify for the World Cup with the Chilean national team.

Defenders

  • Giulia Gwinn (Germany), Griedge Mbock (France), Leah Williamson (England), Mapi León (Spain)

Women’s football is concerned about the “plague” of knee injuries that has occurred in recent months and, more precisely, with cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture. The best defenders in the world did not escape, like Gwinn, Mbock and Williamson.

The case of Mapi León, however, is different. The Spaniard is part of the group of “rebels” who have protested against the methods of ‘Roja’ coach Jorge Vilda, and who have remained adamant in their position of not appearing for squads, even if that meant missing out on the World Cup.

midfielders

  • Delphine Cascarino (France), Amandine Henry (France), Patri Guijarro (Spain), Beth Mead (England)

For Cascarino, best player in the French Championship last season, and for Beth Mead, best player and top scorer in last year’s Euro Cup, the injury is the same: the cruciate ligament of the knee.

Henrymeanwhile, was cut from the squad at the last minute with a calf injury, while Guijarro, star of Barcelona’s European champions, is yet another player in conflict with the Spanish federation.

Attackers

  • Marie-Antoinette Katoto (France), Vivianne Miedema (Netherlands)

Stars from their respective national teams, the French and Dutch, were also victims of cruciate knee ligament injuries. Katoto has even been without playing for over a year, as he was injured before the last Euro, in July 2022.

Reservations

  • Sara Gama (Italy, not called up), Beckey Sauerbrunn (United States, foot injury), Catarina Macario (United States, cruciate ligament, knee), Janine Beckie (Canada, cruciate ligament, knee), Mallory Swanson (United States, knee ), Fran Kirby (England, knee).
