The International Canoe Federation did not allow Russian slalomists to participate in international tournaments
The International Canoe Federation (ICF) did not allow Russian slalomists to participate in international tournaments. This was reported on the website of the Russian Rowing Slalom Federation.
It is noted that the decision was made after consultations with the national federations of those countries that host the main starts of the season in 2023. “An important argument in making a decision is to ensure the safety of the participants, which the UK, Poland and France cannot yet guarantee,” the message says.
Slalomists have become the next athletes forced to miss the competition, despite the fact that the federation announced their admission in a neutral status. Earlier, Russian and Belarusian athletes were denied admission to the 2023 World Championships in kayaking and canoeing also for security reasons.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be suspended from participation in the starts.
