Russian gymnast Maksimova, who changed her citizenship, brought the gold of the Pan-Arab Games to Syria

Russian gymnast Anastasia Maksimova, who changed her citizenship, brought Syria the gold of the Pan-Arab Games-2023. This was reported on the tournament website.

16-year-old Maksimova showed the best performance in the all-around and won the tournament, earning 49.233 points in four exercises. Second place with 45,700 points was taken by Fatma Bukhatem from Algeria. Closed the top three strongest of her compatriot Lahna Salem (44.733 points).

Earlier, information appeared about the participation of seven Russian athletes in the Pan-Arab Games under the flag of Syria. The Russian Ministry of Sports confirmed the change of citizenship of only two athletes – Maximova and judoka Milana Mugu – and called the rest of the information untrue.

The Pan Arab Games 2023 are being held in Algiers. The competition started on July 5 and will last until July 15.

At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee.
