Among onlookers and fans, around 400 people received the player at the airport in Yaoundé, the country’s capital.
Mbappé will spend several days at Village Noah, a hotel complex that belongs to the family of Yannick Noah, a former French tennis player who lives in Yaoundé and organized the PSG striker’s trip.
AFP had access to a copy of the schedule for Mbappé’s trip to Cameroon. On Friday, he will visit the school for deaf children of the Foundation for the Education and Promotion of People with Hearing Impairment (FEPPDA), on the outskirts of the capital, and later he will participate in the “basketball game Mbappé vs Joakim”, in apparent allusion to Joakim Noah, former retired NBA player and son of Yannick.
In the afternoon, he is going to participate in a soccer game for FC Vent d’Etoudi, a Cameroonian second division club which Yannick Noah presides over.
On Saturday, in the city of Douala, he will visit a school and the nearby island of Djebalé, where his father lived before moving to France.
“We are proud to see our Cameroonian brother. We want to give a warm welcome,” said Vannel Kunde, a 16-year-old student.
“It’s a great joy for us, for everyone who loves football,” says 18-year-old Armelle Ntsama.
