Russian speed skater Elizaveta Golubeva decided to change sports citizenship. This was announced to RIA Novosti by the President of the Russian Skating Union (SKR) Nikolai Gulyaev.
Gulyaev said that the athlete had applied for a transfer to the Kazakhstan national team. “We haven’t approved anything yet. We have a procedure approved within the framework of the regulations of the executive committee of the Russian Skating Union – everything is according to plan, ”he said and stressed that the decision would be made by the executive committee. Gulyaev added that the TFR sent a statement to the Ministry of Sports to Golubeva be expelled from the Russian team.
Golubeva, 26, is a six-time bronze medalist at the World Championships. She also has gold, silver and two bronze medals in continental championships. In the 2022/2023 season, she became the best in the mass start at the Russian Championship.
At the end of February 2022, most sports organizations suspended Russians and Belarusians from tournaments on the recommendation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
