Germany refused to Russians to participate in the world championship in kayaking and canoeing
Russian and Belarusian athletes were denied admission to the 2023 World Championships in kayaking and canoeing. This was reported to TASS by the head coach of the Russian national team Alexander Kostoglod.
Athletes have not received an invitation to the competition, which will be held in Duisburg (Germany) from August 23 to 27 and will become a qualifier for the 2024 Olympic Games. “Russian and Belarusian athletes cannot take part in these tournaments due to the fact that the Germans cannot provide security,” Kostoglod quoted a letter from the organizers.
On April 30, the International Canoe Federation (ICF) allowed Russian athletes to compete in a neutral status. It was noted that an independent commission would be created to consider applications from the Russians.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in a neutral status. At the same time, athletes associated with the armed forces or security agencies of the two countries were recommended to be removed from participation in the starts. It was noted that teams from Russia and Belarus cannot be considered as participants in the competition.
