Afghanistan, the country that experienced the worst emotions in the world in 2022, according to a report

The population of Afghanistan It was the one with the fewest positive experiences and the one that suffered the most negative events in 2022, the first year after the Taliban came to power, according to a report that measures the daily experiences of countries, such as leisure, pain or sadness. to make a classification

“One year after the Taliban returned to power, life was worse for Afghans than at any time in the last decade, and for anyone else on the planet”noted the latest annual report on global emotions published this week by the US consulting firm Gallup.

After interviewing 147,000 adults from 142 countries, the document elaborates a classification of countries where the population lives more positive experiences on a daily basis, such as resting well, being treated with respect or leisure; and another with those where its people deal with physical harm, sadness or stress on a daily basis.

Afghanistan was the worst-off country in both rankings, occupying the last position in the list of countries with the most positive experiences, and leading the other classification corresponding to the number of negative anecdotes.

“Positive daily experiences were already limited before the Taliban took control, but these emotions largely disappeared from Afghanistan in 2021 and did not return in 2022. The percentage of Afghans who said they enjoyed themselves, learned something interesting, or felt good the previous day held at or near record lows”, includes the report.

The testimonies were precisely collected between July and August of last year, coinciding with the first anniversary of the Taliban’s rise to power, which happened on August 15, 2021.

The report “showed that almost all Afghans (98%) They qualified their life so bad that they considered it a suffering”.

The Taliban government today rejected the conclusions of the document and insisted that the situation of the Afghan people had improved since their arrival.

“We reject this Gallup poll (…) which is invalid. In the past, Gallup has always made propaganda against Afghanistan.”said Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid.

With 34 points out of a possible hundred, Afghanistan was far from the records of Turkey (45 points) and Lebanon (46) as the rest of the least positive countries in the world.

Regarding the negative experiences of its inhabitants, the Asian country led the ranking for the second consecutive year, with the same points as Sierra Leone.

These results contrasted with the global trend, which according to the document reflects a general increase in positive experiences among the population.
