Mamiashvili said that Russian wrestlers will miss the European Championship due to problems with visas
President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili said that domestic athletes will miss the European Youth Championship due to problems with obtaining a Spanish visa. His words are quoted by TASS.
Mamiashvili said that initially Spain refused the representatives of the Russian team, but then decided to provide visa support. “Unfortunately, this was done late, because the teams should be at the tournament on June 24, we physically do not have time to go there,” he stressed.
On June 6, it became known about the problems with issuing visas to Russian tennis players to participate in Wimbledon 2023. Agent Lev Kassil said that at that time only 15 percent of Russian players received visas.
On April 4, the executive committee of the United World Wrestling decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments. In a statement, the Federation of Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Women’s Wrestling said that the Russians would compete in a neutral status. It is noted that athletes will be allowed to compete subject to the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
