Argentine coach Diego Cocca is fired from the Mexican national team after 4 months in charge

the argentinian coach Diego Cocca was sacked as Mexico’s national team coach on Monday, just four months after taking the job. The Mexicans’ decision comes after the team’s defeat to the United States in the semifinals of the Concacaf League of Nations.

“The natural thing would be to wait for the end of the Gold Cup, but today we have no time to lose, so I announce that I have taken the decision to terminate the contract of Diego Cocca and the members of his technical commission”, informed the president of the Mexican Federation of Football (FMF), Juan Carlos Rodríguez.

In early February, Cocca was presented as a replacement for fellow Argentine Gerardo Martino, who stepped down after being eliminated in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.

Last week, the Mexican national team was defeated by 3-0 by the United States in the semifinal of the League of Nations of Concacaf, a result that determined the dismissal of the coach, even with the victory by 1-0 over Panama in the dispute for third place.

“There is always the risk of losing a game to the United States, because that is football. What cannot be accepted is the way it happened. They gave up winning from the first moment with logistical decisions that caused friction in the group” , said Rodriguez.

As a result, the president of the FMF also decided to dismiss Rodrigo Ares de Parga as director of selections.

Diego Cocca, 51 years old, commanded the Mexico in just seven games, with three wins, three draws and one defeat.

In a video released on the FMF social networks, Rodríguez informed that the Mexican Jaime Lozano will temporarily take over the selection in the Gold Cup, which starts next Saturday, the 24th.
