Tarpischev said that Russian tennis players from the main draw will play at Wimbledon
The head of the Russian Tennis Federation, Shamil Tarpishchev, spoke about the issuance of visas to Russian players to participate in Wimbledon. His words are quoted by TASS.
Tarpishchev noted that he remains in touch with international federations – they assist in obtaining documents. “The players are also in touch, no one complains. All of us from the main draw must play at Wimbledon, ”said the functionary.
On June 6, the agent of the second racket of the world, Daniil Medvedev, Lev Kassil, said that only 15 percent of Russian players received visas. He noted that the athletes took advantage of the expedited processing of documents, which is provided in Britain for a surcharge of a thousand pounds sterling. “The money was taken from our and Belarusian tennis players, and then they refused to consider it in the express format,” he added.
On March 31, the Lawn Tennis Association, which organizes Wimbledon, allowed Russian and Belarusian tennis players who signed a “declaration of neutrality” to participate in the 2023 tournament. Later, information appeared that the athletes agreed to this condition.
