After a goalless draw in normal time and overtime, the Spain defeated Croatia on penalties by 5 to 4 this Sunday (18), in Rotterdam, and won the UEFA Nations League, its first title since Euro 2012.
Dani Carvajal, with a free kick, scored the winning goal for ‘Roja’, after goalkeeper Unai Simon saved penalties from Croatians Lovro Majer and Bruno Petkovic.

“I’m very happy. For us it was a unique opportunity,” said Carvajal in an interview with Spanish public television after the match.
The achievement gives a little peace of mind to coach Luis de la Fuente, who has been much criticized since taking over Spain after the World Cup, especially after the defeat by Scotland in March, in the Qualifiers for Euro 2024.
“All projects are built better from victories. Although I was sure we were on the right path, this victory will give us more strength and confidence,” said De la Fuente at a post-game press conference.
“We returned Spain to the highest level, a title after so long… We are happy”, celebrated Rodri after the game.
