Fetisov responded to the offer of the Russian team to play in the status of refugees

Fetisov said that the proposal of the Russian team to play in the status of refugees is unsportsmanlike

Two-time Stanley Cup winner Vyacheslav Fetisov responded to the proposal of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), according to which the Russian team could compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris in the status of refugees. His words are quoted by Tsargrad TV.

Fetisov said that such decisions do not comply with sports principles, which is why the rights of sports are leveled. He emphasized that he participated in three Olympic Games as an athlete, at one as a coach and a senator, and never encountered the definition of “refugee”.

On June 16, the All Sport agency announced the decision of the IOC to allow Russian athletes to participate in the Games in Paris as a refugee team. It was noted that for this, athletes would have to fulfill several conditions, including stopping participation in all national competitions and stopping accepting any support from Russian sports organizations.

The Paris Olympic Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The decision on the admission of Russians to the competition has not yet been made.
