The 1993 Emelec champion team, after beating Green Cross 3-2 yesterday in a friendly match held this Monday at the George Capwell Stadium, commemorated the national title won thirty years ago in the city of Manta by donating a symbolic Olympic circle on the field.

Based on the stories of Jesús Cárdenas, Álex Cevallos, Iván Hurtado and Marcelo pepo Morales, a blue line-up after winning the 1993 championship in a packed Jocay, did not receive medals or enjoy the trophy presentation ceremony.

However, Emelec celebrated again, on June 12, 2023, on their home field and against the same rival they defeated in Manta with the score of Iván Hurtado.

In a magical scenario, as Cárdenas described to Capwella that was rebuilt during the last presidency of Nassib Neme, Salvador Capitano and Rául Marcovich returned to the bench and to the technical area (previously located at the exit of the tunnel in the city of General Gómez).

The glory of Bombillo prevailed over the glory of Green Cross with goals from Ángel Fernández (8th minute) and Vidal Pachito (26) and a goal against the Manabit team in the 69th minute.

The Manabita team, led by coach Carlos Sevilla, scored in the 18th minute and reduced the deficit again in the 45th minute with an own goal by Tomás Arboleda.

The host has predicted that the match will be played in two periods of thirty minutes each; however, the first stop was extended to 42 minutes and the second to 38 minutes.

Luis Capurro, as team captain, received the trophy.
