Pozdnyakov said that the IOC recommendations prevent the participation of Russians in the Asian Games
President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov called an obstacle to the participation of the Russian team in the Asian Games. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The functionary said that due to a number of political requirements laid down in the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee, the hypothetical possibility of the organized participation of Russians in these competitions looks strange. “It clearly states that athletes do not have the right to represent either their national federation or their national committee,” he added.
On January 26, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) invited Russian and Belarusian athletes to take part in the Asian Games. The competition will be held in autumn 2023 in China.
On January 25, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of individual admission to competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes. It was clarified that only athletes who did not support the conduct of a special operation in Ukraine and did not violate anti-doping rules will be able to get permission to compete in international tournaments.
