Alexander Volkanovski invites Conor McGregor to fight in lightweight
Australian mixed martial artist (MMA) Alexander Volkanovski has challenged Irishman Conor McGregor. The athlete spoke Twitter.
“Let’s do it at lightweight, Conor,” Volkanovski suggested. McGregor has previously announced a return to the octagon after a two-year hiatus. He plans to fight American Michael Chandler before the end of 2023.
On February 12, Volkanovski lost to the Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev by unanimous decision at UFC 284. For the sake of this fight, the Australian moved from the featherweight category to lightweight. The Russian defended the championship belt won in October 2022 for the first time.
McGregor fought the previous fight in the summer of 2021, losing to American Dustin Poirier by technical knockout. The Irishman suffered a broken leg, from which he is still recovering. In his professional career, he spent 28 fights, scoring 22 victories and suffering 6 defeats. Volkanovski has 25 wins and 2 losses.
