Former coach Piskarev spoke about the surrender of the Russian national football team to Ghana at the MFM-1993
Former coach of the Russian youth national football team Alexander Piskarev spoke about surrendering the match to Ghana at the 1993 World Youth Championship (MFM). His words are quoted by Sport-Express.
Piskarev said that he learned that the athletes received money from the underground sweepstakes only after returning from the competition. “In this situation, I found myself in the role of a deceived husband. Everyone was the last to know! The tournament has already passed, I come to Moscow – and they say to me: “Why did you give away your game?” “How did they give it away? To whom?!”” he shared.
Piskarev said that after that he watched the recording of the match. “I look – [Сергей] Alexandrov jumps after the ball, seems to reach out and suddenly removes the handle! And the defender Albert Oskolkov is tightening his legs, the second one is scored from under him, ”he described what he saw.
The national teams of Russia and Ghana met in the quarterfinals of the MFM-1993, which was held in Australia. The game ended with a score of 3:0 in favor of the African team. As a result, the Ghana team reached the final of the tournament and won the silver medal.
