The tragic news of the death of mountaineer Kacper Tekiela spread around the world on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Polish Mountaineering Support Foundation Jerzy Kukuczka reported that one of the leading Polish mountaineers died in an avalanche in the Swiss mountains. The 38-year-old climbed over 300 routes in the Tatra Mountains alone throughout his climbing career. He also covered trails in Alaska, the Caucasus and Norway.
Kacper Tekieli was privately married to Justyna Kowalczyk-Tekiela, an Olympic champion in cross-country skiing. The Olympian spoke for the first time after the tragedy last night. She published moving posts on social media.
