Benzema sentenced in intimate video blackmail case

Forward of Real Madrid and the French national football team Karim Benzema was sentenced to one year in prison on probation. Reported by RMC Sport.

This decision was made by the criminal court of Versailles in the case of blackmailing an intimate video of another French footballer Mathieu Valbuena, who is now playing for the Greek Olympiacos.

Benzema was found guilty of complicity in an attempt at blackmail. In addition to the suspended sentence, the forward will pay a fine of 75 thousand euros. The court concluded that the Frenchman was not aware of the criminal nature of his actions.

In 2015, attackers obtained an intimate video featuring Valbuena. The blackmailers contacted Benzema, who passed on their demands to his teammate.

In the same year, the Real Madrid forward was expelled from the French national team. As a result, the striker missed the 2016 European Championship and the 2018 World Cup in Russia, which was victorious for the French. He returned to the team ahead of Euro 2020.
