Sporting thrashed Paços de Ferreira this Sunday afternoon, 4-0, in a game valid for the 31st round of the Portuguese Championship. The result keeps the team alive in the fight for a spot in the next edition of the Champions League.
Now, Rúben Amorim’s team has 67 points conquered, four less than third-placed Braga. In the Portuguese league, the top two ensure direct qualification to the Champions League group stage, while the third place disputes the playoffs of the competition.
Meanwhile, Paços de Ferreira is taking big steps towards relegation. The team occupies the second place in the Primeira Liga, with only 20 points – in total, there were only five victories throughout the tournament.
This Sunday’s game was easily won by Sporting. The alviverde team was at just seven minutes into the first half, through an own goal scored by José Carlos Coentrão. Still in the initial stage, Nuno Miguel scored the second, at 33.
Striker Francisco Trincao scored the third and increased the advantage in the 17th minute, while Youssef Chermiti, in stoppage time, completed the scoring.

In the next round, Sporting receives Marítimo, at Estádio José Alvalade. The meeting is scheduled for next Sunday, at 4:30 pm (Brasília time). There are still three rounds left for the end of the Portuguese Championship.
