Venezuela suffered almost 900 more electrical failures in April, according to an autonomous entity

Almost 900 more electrical failures were registered last month compared to March in Venezuelawhich suffers intermittent cuts of this service on a daily basis, especially in the interior states of the country, according to data provided this Sunday to EFE by the Committee of People Affected by blackouts.

The independent entity indicated that, last month, 6,935 failures were recorded, which is 892 more compared to the cuts computed in March, which were 6,043, which represents an increase of 14.7%.

The state that suffered the most interruptions in electricity service in April was Zulia (northwest, bordering Colombia), where the Committee for Blackouts Affected 740 failures, followed by Apure (southwest), with 411 cuts, and Táchira (west), with 410, both regions also border the Andean country.

Caracas registered the lowest number of failures last month, with 119, in addition to the coastal state of La Guaira (north), with 140, according to the autonomous entity. The government of Nicolás Maduro attributes the electrical crisis to programmed attacks, mainly from the United States, and to international sanctions that prevent modernizing the electrical system and giving it the required maintenance.

Last Tuesday, the NGO Médicos por la Salud revealed, in its bulletin of the National Hospital Survey (ENH), that 40% of public health centers in Venezuela report “recurring” electrical failures, a number that should be “zero”. .

According to the Committee for Those Affected by Blackouts, failures increased by 22% last year, when at least 233,298 interruptions were recorded, compared to 2021, the year that closed with some 190,006 service cuts.
