Russian fencers will miss the qualifying tournament of the Olympic Games-2024

The head of the FFR accused the International Fencing Federation of skipping the selection for the Olympic Games by the Russians

Russian fencers will miss the qualifying tournament of the 2024 Olympic Games. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the head of the Russian Fencing Federation (FFR) Ilgar Mammadov.

Mammadov accused the International Fencing Federation (FIE) of delaying the admission process and, as a result, missing the Russians from qualifying for the World Cup in Seoul. “You see, they [FIE] I don’t understand what they did from a simple procedure. And, of course, they didn’t have time to go anywhere,” he said.

On March 10, the FIE allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in international tournaments. It was noted that the return of the teams to the starts in a neutral status will take place no earlier than mid-April. However, the process was delayed due to the nuances of the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In response to the admission of the Russians, a number of European countries refused to hold tournaments under the auspices of the FIE on their territory. They explained the decision by the inability to ensure the safety of the participants.
