“Sport-Express”: the Russian national team with a high degree of probability will refuse the CAFA championship
The Russian national football team is highly likely to refuse to participate in the first championship of the Central Asian Football Association (CAFA). It is reported by “Sport-Express”.
The tournament is planned to be held from June 9 to 21 in Bishkek and Tashkent. Players from Iran, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan should perform at it.
On April 11, it became known that all Asian teams supported the possible participation of Russia in the CAFA championship. It is noted that at the moment the teams have not yet signed official papers for playing at the tournament.
On February 28, 2022, the International Football Federation and the Union of European Football Associations excluded Russian teams and clubs from international tournaments. Domestic teams do not play in European competitions, and the Russian team was deprived of the opportunity to compete for reaching the finals of the 2022 World Cup.
